Opening : November 17, 2015
Location : SO ART GALLERY – 29, Rue Jalal Eddine Essayouti, Place des Iris
Casablanca, September 1 2015 –Canadian painter, DOMINIC BESNER, lands on the first day of a four month visit to Moroccco, where his goal is to create an entirely new exhibit to be shown at the SO ART GALLERY beginning on November 17, 2015.
“The advantage of painting on location is the opportunity to enjoy the full range of sensory experiences, inlcuding the scents, the savours and particularly the light, that infuences my painting” states Besner from his art studio residence in Casablanca.
“The environmental and cultural change will allow me to question some fundamental precepts and to explore new horizons. It’s complete immersion and I will have the opportunity to reacquaint myself with a people I deeply love, whose culture and pace of life are very different from what we know in Canada; this is a great source of inspiration for me.”
In order to allow Besner to take full advantag of such an enriching experience, the owner of the SO ART GALLERY, Mohammed BOUTALEB, has provided the artist with “a creative space where he will have the opportunity to discuss ideas and culture with several well-known Maghrebine artists, including MOA BENNANI, RABI, SADOUK and CHERKAOUI.”
Besner is currently working on his third solo exhibit in Morocco. In 2007, he was invited by the ONA Foundation to create an exhibit demonstrating how art can cohabit with fashion. His co-creators from the fashion world were Mohamed Lakhdar, Albert Oikine and Karim Tassi, well known for the impressive caftans they created, based on Besner’s artwork. The resulting art exhibit, Au Fil de l’Art, was hosted at the two Villa des arts, one in Casablanca and one in Rabat. Besner was then invited by Lucien Amiel, to show his work in the famous Galerie Venise-Cadre.
At the new exhibition, that will open on November 17 at the SO ART GALLERY, BESNER will show an entirely new corpus of works, which wil showcase his creations that focus on line drawings, colour and light
